Medical Education has an important role in the development of healthcare facilities in any particular region. India is proud for the fact that medical sciences have seen significant progress here owing to the establishment of many medical colleges and research centres. Tamil Nadu has as many as 25 medical colleges out of which four are located in Chennai. These are Kilpauk Medical College, Stanley Medical College, Madras Medical College and Research Institute and Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (a deemed university). The first three medical colleges are affiliated to Dr. MGR Medical University.
